5 February 2008 empik and HDS Poland signed an investment contract and a joint venture concerning a common investment project - creation of a new sub-brand - empik cafe. Empik acquired 49% of the shares and HDS Poland – 51%. Empik cafe runs coffee bars in the whole of Poland: in empik stores and HDS points, in shopping centres and offices, in important communication points (airports and railway stations) and on high streets. During the coming four years, empik cafe Sp. z o.o. is planning to open from 90 to 120 new coffee bars.
